Police continue to search for escaped convict David Sweat

RAY BROOK, N.Y. (WIVB) – The New York State Police are continuing their search for escaped prisoner David Sweat.

Police are now focusing their efforts on a heavily wooded 22 square mile perimeter along State Route 30 between County Route 41 in the Town of Malone and County Route 26 in the Town of Duane.

As of Saturday afternoon, officials report that approximately 1,200 federal, state and local law enforcement members are actively involved in the search. Calling in help from multiple agencies, the State Police are assisted by Forest Rangers, officers from the Department of Corrections, the FBI, U.S. Marshals Service and many others.

The body of escapee Richard Matt, who was shot and killed by law enforcement Friday afternoon in the Town of Duane, has been transported to Albany Medical Center for an autopsy.
