RAY BROOK, N.Y. (WIVB) – Autopsy results on the remains of Richard Matt determined the cause of death to be “severe skull fractures and brain injuries due to gunshot wounds to the head.”
In a press release the New York State Police says, “a U.S. Customs and Border Protection Tactical Unit member discharged several rounds from a semi-automatic weapon striking Matt in the head three times.”
The autopsy was conducted on June 27, at the Albany Medical Center by Dr. Michael Sikirica.
Further examination of the body revealed bug bites on the lower extremities, blisters and other minor abrasions. All consistent with living in the woods for three weeks.
Officials say, toxicology results are currently pending.
Richard Matt was gunned down in a wooded area about 30 miles from the maximum security Clinton Correctional Facility on June 26.
