HANOVER, N.Y. (WIVB) – A CSX train carrying mixed freight and 46 empty rail cars broke down early Sunday afternoon, while traveling through Hanover.

In a statement from CSX, the company says, the train “experienced mechanical issues.”

The train stopped operation to comply with safety protocols, blocking off traffic at Alleghany and Hanford Roads.

Crews from CSX were on hand to separate the rail cars, allowing road traffic to flow periodically.

As of late Sunday, the company says, “it’s working to resolve the mechanical issues as safely and quickly as possible in order to move the train from the area.” provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
