Lockport a little safer with new, live-saving equipment

LOCKPORT, N.Y. – Basil Toyota and Volkswagen presented the South Lockport Fire Company with some new equipment Saturday.

Basil teamed up with the community to raise funds for a new Jaws of Life. This equipment can cost up to $25,000. And, the fire company would not have been able to afford it without the donation.

Following the presentation, the South Lockport Fire Company offered live demonstrations of rescue procedures.

South Lockport Fire Company Chief Tim Glaser expressed the company’s appreciation.

“You don’t understand how much this means to us,” he said. “We get a lot of backing from our community. The Town of Lockport and its people are fantastic to us. But, for a business to step up and say, ‘hey, you know what? We appreciate what you guys do, we’re going to take care of this for you.’ It really made us take a step back and appreciate our community, the people and the businesses in it.”

Chief Glaser said this new Jaws of Life will make the community safer. It will cut down the time of extrication from 30-45 minutes to 15 minutes.
