BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Proposed changes to New York’s popular Powerball lottery are slated to take effect in October, but odds are frequent players won’t be happy.
New changes to the game would include increasing the numbers in play by 10, meaning those playing will pick from 69 numbers, rather than 59 numbers. That means the odds of matching all numbers will jump to one in 292 million.
The bright side is the chances of winning the smallest prize — the $4 winner — will increase.
Across the nation, 36 states participate in the Powerball lottery.
