HAMILTON, ON (WIVB) — A man was attacked by a dog late Wednesday evening while walking on a road.

Two men were walking together along Burton St. in Hamilton, Ontario around 11:15 p.m. Wednesday when a dog appeared and began to attack one of the men.  The man collapsed to the ground. Following an evaluation, officials say they don’t think the dog attack is the cause of the man’s death.

A witness at the scene intervened by using a baseball bat to fend off the dog.

The man who was attacked was later pronounced dead at the scene. The cause of the man’s death has not yet been determined.

The dog is currently in the care of Animal Control as Hamilton Police continue to investigate. Anyone with information is asked to contact detectives at 905-546-3821.
