BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — A car crashed at Gates Circle early Monday morning, leaving a Kenmore woman critically injured.
Police say her car was heading north on Delaware Avenue around 2:30 a.m. when her car hit a median, went into the air and hit a bench and tree.
The car was flipped over when first responders arrived. Buffalo firefighters had to free the woman from the car.
People who live around Gates Circle tell News 4 they’re not surprised to hear that speeding may have played a role. “I think you’ve got to be careful going around it sometimes, because people go very fast and they really don’t yield at all,” said one local resident, Patricia Caine. “People need to slow down. You can’t go 30 around there, that’s for sure.”
Monday morning’s accident was just the latest in a string of serious crashes at Gates Circle. Just two weeks ago, a man was critically injured when he lost control of his motorcycle while heading north on Delaware at Gates Circle. Click here to read our earlier coverage of that.
At least some people who live near the traffic circle say, it may be time to make some changes. “It’s terrible, with all the cars coming from all different directions and no one knows who’s going to go first. So that’s what happens, accidents,” said Felicia Chapman. “They need more stop signs or something, or maybe even a traffic light.”
As of Monday afternoon, pieces of the car that crash still littered the circle. The crash caused extensive damage to Gates Circle.
