BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Content which flows through the average Facebook user’s news feed is generated and selected by complicated algorithms, but now, Facebook is allowing its users better control over which content is prioritized.
A new feature announced in July will allow users to build personalized news feeds by selecting which pages or friends they enjoy seeing updates from most. The new controls are found in the “News Feed Preferences” section of Facebook, and allow users to select who they would like to prioritize, as well as who they would like to see less or more from.
Once in the selection screen, users can place stars over the groups they wish to prioritize, and any new updates from those preferred pages will filter in ahead of other users at the beginning of the user’s next Facebook session.
Users can prioritize both Facebook friends and pages, like News 4’s News 4 Buffalo Facebook Page. Make sure to prioritize News 4’s Facebook page to ensure you never miss a post.
The new feature is currently available on the Facebook mobile app and desktop website. To set preferences, tap the “More” button in the bottom right corner of the app, then tap “News Feed Preferences” or click “News Feed Preferences” from the settings menu in the top right corner on desktop.
