ALBANY, N.Y. (WIVB) — A notorious murderer who escaped Dannemora’s Clinton Correctional Facility is now healed up from his gunshot wounds.
David Sweat, who escaped in June from the maximum security facility, was on the run for nearly a month before New York State Police Sergeant Jay Cook brought him down by shooting him.
Sweat gradually recovered from critical condition, healing enough to be transported to the prison’s infirmary. On Wednesday, officials said he healed enough to leave the prison’s infirmary, and now the disciplinary action will move forward.
Prison officials placed sweat in the special housing unit and filed formal disciplinary charges against the criminal. Now hearings will move forward to determine the extent of misconduct and to determine the appropriate penalty.
The action against sweat internally has no bearing on separate criminal prosecution related to the escape. Clinton County’s District Attorney said they are looking to prosecute Sweat for the crimes he committed during his escape.
