Free Wi-Fi now available in downtown Buffalo

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – People visiting downtown Buffalo can now take advantage of a new free Wi-Fi service.

Called “Buffalo Connect”, the new service is a free, outdoor Wi-Fi network with more than 30 hot spots.  Each hot spot has a range from 250 feet up to possibly 500 feet.

The network runs along Main St. from the Buffalo Medical Campus to Canalside and HarborCenter.

The project was completed with help from M&T Bank and the University at Buffalo. Teams from those companies engineered, installed and designed the network system. M&T Bank financed the project and UB provided the fiber network.

Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown launched the network Tuesday afternoon in a tweet. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
