Man rescued by Trooper who performed CPR

ROYALTON, N.Y. (WIVB) — A New York State Trooper called to the scene of a personal injury accident was the first on scene, but a man’s life hung in the balance.

The officer wasted no time after seeing the driver of a car which crashed into a field off State Route 77 in Royalton. The driver, an 86-year-old Lockport man, wasn’t breathing or responsive. The officer enlisted the help of a nearby person and laid the crash victim out to perform CPR.

When emergency medical response hit the scene, the officer had the elderly male breathing again. Following investigation, police say the driver had a medical emergency during a drive on Monday.

Officials from the hospital say the elderly man is expected to recover. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
