MAP: With STDs on the rise, map compares disease by county

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Health officials say the amount of STDs residents of New York State are contracting is on the rise and they’re pointing to social media and applications as part of the problem.

One interactive map of the U.S. released STD contractions by county for major counties within the U.S. Western New York falls roughly in the middle, with Erie county having the highest number of contractions of all counties.

The data says Erie County residents have contracted roughly 6,000 cases of Chlamydia, Syphilis and Gonorrhea, and per 100,000 people, roughly 600 people contract an STD.

Many other regions outpaced western New York, however, including parts of Alaska and Nevada.
