Buffalo named a finalist for 2018 world junior championships

BUFFALO, NY (WIVB) — On Tuesday USA Hockey named Buffalo along with Chicago, Pittsburgh, St. Louis and Tampa Bay as finalists to host the 2018 International Ice Hockey Federation World Junior Championships.

The annual tournament consists of 10 nations and 31 games over a two-and-a-half week time span. It showcases the best men’s players under the age of 20, often featuring future NHL stars. The tournament offers its host city international exposure, with media coverage spanning the globe.

USA hockey has previously hosted the event five times, including once in Buffalo in 2011.
