Mom leaves baby in hot car at Amherst Target

AMHERST, N.Y. (WIVB) — A 1-year-old baby is safe, and a mom is facing charges after police broke a window to rescue the child from a hot car at a Target on Niagara Falls Boulevard.

The mother, identified by police as Irina Dyuzheva, allegedly left her son in the car while she was shopping. At the time, bright sun pounded down on the car — the air temperature hung at about 80 degrees.

Police say a passerby noticed the young boy in the car and called for help. Officers charged the 33-year-old mother with endangering the welfare of a child.

Only about 20 minutes elapsed as officers rescued the child, and they say the child didn’t suffer any injuries. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
