PITTSFORD, N.Y. (WIVB) – Jerry Hughes may not have the Pro Bowl pedigree of his linemates, but he is a vital piece in the Bills’ plans this year.
With Rex Ryan comes a new look for the defense, but Hughes says his role is fairly simple.
“Whoever’s got the ball, we pin our ears back and we got get him,” said Hughes.
Coming off a ten sack season, he is far from anonymous at this point – and would have had more than his fair share of suitors on the free agent market. Instead, Hughes chose to stay put with a team he feels is on the verge of big things.
“We’re already headed in the right direction,” said Hughes. “To be so close last year, just one game away from actually making it to the playoffs, I felt like with this team, we could do a lot. Why not us?”
“With Jerry, he wanted to be a Bill, it’s home for him and him coupled with his linemates, those three guys it’s a special group, there’s no hiding that fact,” said head coach Rex Ryan.
Through the first five days of camp, that unit’s already proven it can give offenses fits. Expect that trend to continue, once the regular season hits.
