PITTSFORD, N.Y. (WIVB) – The Bills spent part of the offseason trying to bolster the offensive line, and Rex Ryan makes it sound like they made quite an addition with rookie guard John Miller.
Miller, a third round pick out of Louisville, has been part of the starting unit since early in OTA’s and continued that run through the first five days of training camp.
“I think John has been everything that’s advertised,” said head coach Rex Ryan. “We brought him in here anticipating the fact that he’d probably jump right in it, and he has.”
He is picking up quite the training camp experience right now, going up against a pair of Pro Bowl defensive tackles on a daily basis, Marcell Dareus and Kyle Williams.
“It’s awesome. Just because, like you said, those guys are Pro Bowlers. They’re experienced guys, great guys, great teammates. It’s good to go against those guys and get better,” said Miller.
Ryan already said LT Cordy Glenn, LG Richie Incognito, and C Eric Wood have locked up starting spots on the offensive line. It sounds like Miller won’t be far behind.
“Talked to (offensive line coach Aaron) Kromer today and Aaron goes, ‘Well, the young man made a mistake today, he did make one mistake… But he gave me the greatest reason. He goes, ‘This is what I saw, I know I made a mistake, but here’s why I thought I was doing this and this ‘. He goes, ‘Wow, that’s impressive’,” said Ryan.
After the Bills struggled at the guard spots last year, having both Miller and Incognito receiving praise from Ryan early in camp has to be a positive sign.
