Four rescued from sinking boat in Lake Erie

DUNKIRK, N.Y. (WIVB) – The Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Department rescued four people from a sinking vessel early Sunday afternoon.

Boaters made a distress call reporting their 20-foot fishing boat was taking on water in Lake Erie.

The Sheriff’s Office Marine Unit conducted a search and found the boat approximately four miles off shore in the Town of Sheridan. The craft was submerged over its bow and taking on more water.

The boaters, wearing personal floatation devices were rescued and did not suffer any injury.
