BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — A company set to shut down one of its facilities by the end of August is speaking out about the closure.
Niagara LaSalle is closing its south Buffalo steel bar facility, but original slated its closure for July of 2015, not August.
“Due to production reasons, the closing has been pushed from July to August,” a company spokesperson said.
The decision to shutter the plant will put nearly 50 people out of a job.
“We thank our employees and the community of Buffalo for their dedication and support over the years,” the representative said. “We are working to facilitate underemployment and other related benefits for our workforce.”
The company’s spokesperson said the closure should help the company succeed as a whole over time.
“Given the persistent challenging conditions, we have made the difficult decision to close our Buffalo facility. Becoming a leaner organization is necessary to better compete in today’s environment and ensure Niagara LaSalle’s long-term viability,” the representative said.
