Crews rescue 2 boaters from Erie Basin Marina

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – First responders were called to the Erie Basin Marina after a woman fell off a boat and into the water early Sunday morning.

The Coast Guard responded to the call that came in around 1:30 a.m. after a man tried to rescue the woman from the water.

Authorities say about an hour later the two were located by the breakwall and brought to safety.

Joshua Lurvey of the U.S. Coast Guard said, “We then circled onto the inside of the break wall to get away from the waves and help them onto our boat and brought them to Erie Basin where they were taken care of by emergency medical services.”

The two were transported to ECMC with non-life-threatening injuries.

The Buffalo police Underwater Recovery Team and the Erie County Air One Helicopter were called to assist in the rescue.
