Standoff ends peacefully with arrest in Lockport

LOCKPORT, N.Y. (WIVB) — With the help of negotiators, police in Lockport successfully deescalated a situation potentially involving several firearms.

An altercation on Spaulding Street in Lockport between a boyfriend and girlfriend led the female to flee the house for her safety. The man, eventually identified as Gary W. Gronemeyer, refused to leave the house when confronted by police.

Inside the home, according to the homeowner, Gronemeyer had access to a gun, so police treated the situation as a standoff, bringing in a negotiator.

Several hours of dialogue ensued between the negotiator and Gronemeyer before he agreed to exit the home unarmed. Police immediately arrested him and charge him with third degree felony criminal mischief and fourth degree criminal possession of a firearm.

Police say inside the home, they found and removed several guns.

Gronemeyer will be arraigned in Lockport City Court on Wednesday.
