Driving while talking on the cell phone leads to felony DWI charges

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — A local man is facing felony charges, including felony DWI, for allegedly driving drunk down the I-190.

New York State Troopers flagged down 34-year-old West Seneca native Nicholas Wisnowski after reportedly seeing him drive past with a cell phone in hand. Police say after pulling him over, they learned his license had been revoked due to a previous DWI conviction in 2008, requiring him to drive with an interlock device.

Police say they realized Wisnowski was drunk again when they pulled him over on late Tuesday night. Police later charged him with felony DWI, felony first degree aggravated unlicensed operation, operating a motor vehicle with no interlock device and a cell phone violation.

A judge remanded Wisnowski to jail on $3,500 bail. He’ll return to court on Sept. 22.
