Police: Woman caught attempting to lie to steal benefits

ALBION, N.Y. (WIVB) — While applying for Medicaid and SNAP benefits, a local woman is accused of lying to attempt to receive additional funds.

Police say they investigated an application for benefits turned in to Orleans County’s Department of Social Services by 31-year-old Amanda L. Ramirez. During the investigation, police say they learned Ramirez lied about the number of people living in her home.

Following Ramirez’s arrest, police charged her with two counts of felony offering to file a false instrument. She will return to court on Sept. 16.
