BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Rex Ryan’s timetable for naming a starting quarterback hasn’t changed: He plans to make his decision known leading up to the Bills’ season opener against the Indianapolis Colts.
But there’s a difference between an announcement and a decision, and according to Ryan, he will have made his decision on the Bills’ starting quarterback following Saturday’s third preseason game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
During an appearance on SportsNet 590 Radio in Toronto on Wednesday morning, Ryan said he and Bills coaches plan to decide on a starter after Saturday’s game.
“We might not announce it but we’ll know who it is by then,” Ryan said.
Ryan has maintained throughout training camp that he’s looking at three quarterbacks for the job: Matt Cassel, Tyrod Taylor and EJ Manuel, despite the latter’s dip in first team reps during the past few weeks. In the meantime, he has yet to name a starter for Saturday’s home game against the Steelers.
