Daily News cover stirs outrage following slaying on live television

NEW YORK, N.Y. (WIVB) — When two journalists working on a story about local business and their Roanoke Chamber of Commerce were gunned down on live television Wednesday, understandably newspaper headlines focused on the tragic event a day later.

However, one newspaper may have crossed the line with the images they paired with their headlines. The New York Daily News went to print with the headline: EXECUTED ON LIVE TV. Three still images from the gunman’s GoPro show the fear in journalist Alison Parker’s eyes as she is fired upon by Vester Flanagan.

Hours before the issue went to print, the New York Daily News took to twitter to tease their newspaper, only to find heavy criticism. Many people took to Twitter with the hashtag #BoycottNYDailyNews.
