Suspended BPD officer Corey Krug facing another federal charge

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — An embattled Buffalo Police Department officer is facing additional federal charges after new details surfaced over an event that allegedly happened five years ago.

A grand jury chose to indict Corey Krug with additional charges of deprivation of rights under color of law. Earlier in August, Krug faced the same charge for allegedly beating a man on Thanksgiving day in 2014.

Officials say the latest charges stem from an incident on Aug. 29, 2010 when he allegedly used excessive force against a man, striking him with an impact weapon. The incident also led to a charge of filing a false report for filing a report that did not detail his accurate use of force.

Krug will be arraigned on the new charges on Friday at 2 p.m.

If found guilty of all of his charges, Krug could face up to 20 years behind bars and a fine of up to $500,000. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
