ST. AUGUSTINE, FL (WIVB/WJAX) – Sheriff’s deputies in Florida say they found two women shot to death on Thursday morning.
One of the two women gunned down in the St. Augustine area hailed from western New York. Police identified the body of former Kenmore native Lindy Dobbins.
Investigators say she got caught up in an altercation between her friend and her friend’s husband.
According to the Saint Johns County Sheriff, James Colley shot and killed his estranged wife, Amanda and then killed Dobbins.
Law enforcement officers tracked Colley down after a hunt, taking him into custody in Virginia. While the hunt continued, schools in the surrounding area of the shooting went into lockdown.
Dobbins’ family continues to reside in western New York. A family with close ties to the 39-year-old said they’re reeling at the loss. Ric and Sharon Dimpfl say they recently cracked open a photo album of a wedding they all attended and remarked on the memories made.
“I think that the way she loved her children and she was always there for them and always very comforting to see somebody who was that good of a mother in this day and age and she really loved her children and her family,” Ms. Dimpfl said.
Dobbins is survived by her two children and a step-son. There’s no information on funeral arrangements as of yet.
Police continue to investigate the murders. News 4 will update this story when more information becomes available.
