Hit-and-run crash leads to DWI charges

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — A Grand Island man is facing charges of driving while intoxicated after police responded to the scene of a hit-and-run crash.

Police say a driver traveling north on the I-190 rear-ended another vehicle and drove off. The driver whose car was hit wrote down the other vehicle’s license plate number and called it in to police. Officers then began their hunt for 56-year-old Donald C. Truitt.

When they eventually pulled him over, police say they learned he was drunk. After an investigation and several tests, police say they learned he drove with a blood alcohol content of .12 percent.

Truitt stands charged with DWI and leaving the scene of a property damage accident. He’ll return to court at a later date in September.
