Police: Distracted driving leads driver to crash with Amish buggy

POLAND, N.Y. (WIVB) — Texting and driving may be to blame for a crash between a car and Amish buggy in Chautauqua County.

Police say they responded on Friday morning around 11 a.m. to Falconer Frewsburg Road in the Town of Poland after a driver there took a turn too fast. The driver, identified as Amanda Braley, entered the opposite lane of the roadway, crashing into an Amish buggy with five people inside.

Two adults and three children, one as young as 2-months-old, suffered injuries from the crash. First responders brought 28-year-old Nancy Byler to WCA Hospital with serious injuries from the accident. The horse pulling the buggy also suffered serious injuries.

Braley stands charged with failure to keep right, operating a motor vehicle while using a cell phone and operating a motor vehicle with a suspended drivers license. She will return to court at a later date.
