ST. AUGUSTINE, FLA. (WIVB) — The Kenmore family of Lindy Dobbins is reeling after the Buffalo native was shot to death in a domestic incident involving her friend.
Authorities say James Colley shot and killed his wife, Amanda, and then turned the gun on Dobbins, who had stepped in to help.
A manhunt ensued and Colley was eventually tracked down in Virginia.
In the wake of her death, friends and family said they found an outpouring of people willing to help — so they’re funneling their efforts into a Go Fund Me page.
Lindy’s sister-in-law, Colleen Murphy, said Lindy was a religious education teacher at her local church and worked a part-time job. The mother of three was deeply involved in her community, especially her immediate neighborhood, and always the person to bring the family together.
“She was the person who kind of spread seeds around everywhere and left her mark everywhere,” Murphy said. “And that’s what brought people closer and together. Looking back and seeing the things that people back home (in Buffalo) are saying and doing, everyone is coming together. And it was Lindy, right? It was Lindy that did this.”
Colleen said family and friends in the Buffalo area are organizing a memorial event in Lindy’s honor, but details are still being finalized.
