ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (WIVB) – It was the same answer with every fan News 4 spoke with. Everyone was shocked to learn about the release of Fred Jackson. Some came to the official Buffalo Bills store to make sure they stock up on number 22 before its removed from shelves forever.
“I was in shock. I couldn’t believe it. Ii was in shock,” Shirley Gulczewski said. “I watched the game Saturday for the little part he was in the game. I’m shocked, i’m totally shocked!”
Employees at the store say phones have been ringing off the hook with requests from fans who want to stock up on number 22 and to put Jackson jerseys on hold. Some long-time Bills fans say they miss the days when teams stuck together, longer.
Bill Moeller from West Seneca says, “I’m shocked! He served the Bills very well, very productive for years. If you needed a first down if you needed a touch down, give it to Freddy.”
Many call him a community guy, involved and always giving back.
Colby Rehrauer from Buffalo, said, “On and off the field he did so much for the kids in the city of Buffalo. Not everybody is like that and we were lucky to have Fred to play such a big role for us.”
Right now there is a Change.org petition to bring Jackson back to the Bills. The petition says he represents not only the Bills, but all of western New York. You can find a link to the petition here.
