BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — A Buffalo State student is under investigation as police continue to investigate an attempted sexual assault on Friday.
Police say they arrested a man enrolled in the university for entering a Porter Hall dorm room at 3:21 a.m. on Friday morning and attempting to sexually assault a female inside. The man allegedly forcibly touched the female student before she forcibly struggled against the assault.
When the female let out an audible scream, the man left the room and she reached out for help. Police who responded to the scene arrested the man soon after and asked the victim for a positive identification. Police say they identified the assailant as 17-year-old Elijah O. Bethel, a Troy man.
Bethel stands charged with first degree sexual abuse, forcible touching and second degree burglary.
Officials at the campus say sexual assault can happen to any person at any time. They encourage their students to call campus police if they ever feel threatened at (716) 878-6333. Anybody in danger can also always call 911 for immediate assistance.
The victim is currently under the care of medical and counseling professionals.
