Two separate drivers charged with DWI one right after the other

NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. (WIVB) — Two separate drivers faced consecutive arrests on Saturday evening after police say they drove drunk.

New York State Troopers say they stopped Jacob J. Granat, 24, after he drove past an officer and made a traffic violation. Police who tested his sobriety say he failed, and arrested him thereafter.

While a tow crew worked to remove his car from the scene, police say another driver nearly struck the tow truck operator who was outside of his vehicle at the time. Police then flagged that driver down, sparking 30-year-old Donald A. Compton’s arrest.

Police say Compton also failed sobriety tests. He stands charged with felony DWI, failure to yield right of way to an emergency vehicle, felony aggravated unlicensed operator, failure to use an interlock device and failure to deliver license or registration.

Granat faces charges of felony aggravated unlicensed operation, DWI, illegal signal and stopped on pavement.

Neither man submitted to a breathalyzer test. Each will return to court at a later date. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
