BUFFALO N.Y. (WIVB) — Lance Leipold won 109 games in his career as a Division Three head coach. On Saturday, he picked up win number one in the FBS, as the University at Buffalo lit up the scoreboard in a 51-14 season-opening win vs. Albany.
Quarterback Joe Licata led the way, going 20-26, throwing for 246 yards and two touchdowns. Running back Anthone Taylor chipped in with 104 yards and two touchdowns of his own, as the offense put up the most points in a season opener in school history.
The game ended on a high note when Jacob Martinez returned a punt for a touchdown, the first for the Bulls since 2002. It was the longest drought in the country before Saturday’s win.
UB will travel to State College, PA, to face Penn State next Saturday. The Nittany Lions dropped their opener to Temple on Saturday.
