DEPEW, N.Y. (WIVB) — A serious collision between a car and a pickup truck led to the death of a Depew woman Wednesday morning.
Police and first responders rushed to the scene of the 11:30 a.m. crash on French Road near Alys Drive in Depew to find a severely damaged car with its engine block separated from the body of the vehicle. The car and the pickup truck collided in a head-on crash while traveling in opposite directions.
Inside the car, police say they found two Depew residents, including the 72-year-old woman who died on the scene. She had been driving with her grand daughter, a Depew woman in her twenties who survived the crash, but was treated for injuries at ECMC.
The driver of the pickup truck also survived, but is being treated for serious injuries at ECMC. Neighbors on the scene of the crash say they believe the driver of the pickup truck sped down the residential street.
“I was in my bathroom and my lights were flickering, so I thought maybe the power went out, and then my son went out and it was just smoke,” a neighbor who lives near the crash scene said. “We smelled rubber and smoke, that was it all we saw was a barrage of police cars and fire engines, and then we just see a couple ambulances here.”
Accident investigators remained on the scene of the crash into the evening.
