BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — A barber gunned down while cutting hair on Niagara Street sparked outrage from the Buffalo community and an intensive investigation by Buffalo Police. That investigation is now yielding results.
A spokesperson for the Buffalo Police Department announced they arrested one suspect in connection with the Sept. 1 murder of 28-year-old Juan Ortiz. Gunfire rang out in Ortiz’s barber shop on 577 Niagara Street just before 12 p.m., filling him gunshot wounds.
Police say they arrested and charged 29-year-old Victor Martinez with second degree murder, but said they’re not done with the investigation just yet. Officers are still on the hunt for a second suspect in connection with the violent murder.
The community in west Buffalo came together to mourn the violence during a particularly deadly week in Buffalo. Sept. 1 alone saw four shootings; the week saw several deaths.
As police continue to investigate the barber shop shooting, they’re asking for the public’s help in bringing the last suspect to justice. Anybody with information can call (716) 847-2255.
