MAYVILLE, N.Y. (WIVB) – The historic Chautauqua Belle ran ashore late Saturday evening with nearly 70 passengers on board.

Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office received a complaint at approximately 6:20 p.m. that a wedding party was stranded on the steamboat about 100 yards off shore.

The Chautauqua County Sheriff’s department, multiple fire companies and the Chautauqua County Water Emergency Team responded to the call.

Sheriff Joseph Gerace told News 4, all passengers were evacuated from the vessel and taken to shore by other boats.

Officials believe the cause to be strong winds and rough water.

No injuries were reported in the incident.
