ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (WIVB) – T-minus 24 hours until kick off, and the bacon and the beer are already out in full force. Brian Montgomery from Brooklyn and his 3 younger brothers started a new tradition last year. He said, “The Bills bring us back.”
They take their family camper to the Ralph, and reunite for the season opener. “We all started coming to games together late 80’s or early 90’s with my dads season tickets. We’ve all moved around the country and even to other countries and we’re all back. We’ve got a few guys living in Canada and we’re all back now,” he said.
Since early Saturday morning they waited in line. They were one of the last campers to snag a tailgate spot. Others, weren’t so lucky.
Steve Blaske from Olean said, “We got up here about 5:30, and realized it was about a 3-mile line. So we were hoping there would be plenty of room out there and then they closed it. We were about 10th or 11th left. We might be on the street tailgating tonight,” he said.
Joe Calderone from Eden, and his family have been season ticket holders for seven years. “By the time we got to this point, it was a quarter to 8, and the overflow wasn’t going to be available to us like it was the last three years.” The lot opened at 8 a.m. and was sold out by 8:45 a.m. The over-flow lot won’t open until 9 a.m. on game day.
Calderone said, “Now we have to go and find someplace else to park. It’s ridiculous. This is not how you accomodate people who are going to a Buffalo Bills game.”
Some say its a new season, a new coach and a lot of hope that has this lot packed. “I think it’s the year we break that play off drought, so we’re all excited,” said Blaske.
The rules for parking and tailgating are listed in the Stadium guide. You can find a link to that here.
