2 inmates charged after alleged gang assault on rival inmate

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Two inmates at the Erie County Holding Center are facing felony charges after an attack that police are calling gang-related.

Sheriff Timothy Howard reports that an inmate was targeted while in his housing unit by two suspected rival gang members at around 5 a.m. Tuesday.

Deputies rushed in to break up the assault. The victim was then rushed to the hospital with injuries to his head, body and lower leg.

The two inmates, identified as 26-year-old Billie Sweat and 29-year-old Seymour Atkinson, were arrested on felony assault charges, as well as criminal charges. They are also facing administrative discipline charges.
