Buffalo Philharmonic kicks off season with world famous pianist

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – Music will fill the air at Kleinhans Music Hall again Thursday night. The Buffalo Philharmonic is getting ready to kick off the season along with a special guest.

Internationally known pianist Lang Lang will join the orchestra to perform Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2 for the first performance of the 2015-2016 season. The superstar musician, who audiences may recognize from his recent Grammy performances with Pharrell Williams and Metallica, last shared the stage with the BPO in front of a sold out crowd in 2011.

This season also marks the 75th anniversary of Kleinhan’s Music Hall, which was built in 1940 by two of the world’s top architects at the time. The building has since grown into one of Buffalo’s most recognizable landmarks.

The evening will begin with a fundraising gala at 5 pm. JoAnn Falletta will conduct the concert, which starts at 8pm. Tickets are still available.
