BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — A 27-year-old man is behind bars after a homeowner in Orchard Park alerted police to suspicious activity.
Authorities say Timothy J. Grandits, of Hamburg, was seen lurking between houses on the 6000 block of Big Tree Road late Tuesday night. When confronted by a homeowner, he allegedly claimed to need help with his broken down truck, parked in a lot at 84 Lumber on South Taylor Road.
According to investigators, Grandits took off when the homeowner went inside to call police, but was seen running from 84 Lumber as officers arrived. In the lot, they discovered an abandoned pickup truck with a trailer backed up to a pile of plywood, some of which had already been loaded in.
Detectives say they were able to track down Grandits at his home a few hours later and bring him in for questioning, but he was ultimately released.
However, that freedom didn’t last long. Police report that Grandits returned to 84 Lumber early the next morning and was arrested on numerous charges, including grand larceny, criminal possession of a controlled substance, trespassing and criminal possession of stolen property for a chop saw found in his truck.
Grandits was unable to post $1,000 bail.
