AUSTIN (KXAN) – Police suspect an argument in a West Austin trailer led to a brawl in which one man bit another man’s ears off in mid August, according to an arrest warrant.
Timothy Joseph Martinez, 36, has been charged with aggravated assault with serious bodily injury, a second-degree felony.
Police responded to a call at 8220 State Highway 71, which is the location of the Country Aire Mobile Home Park, on Aug. 14. The caller said, “his ears had been bitten off,” according to the arrest affidavit.
Police said the victim was missing “at least half of his right ear and part of his left ear.”
Martinez and the victim began fighting after the victim intervened in an argument and told Martinez to leave the residence. Martinez then went to his room, took off his shirt, removed his glasses and attacked the victim, police said.
“Doctors had to remove half of [the victim’s] left ear to make repairs to the right ear,” according to the arrest affidavit. The victim will require additional surgeries, police added.
The victim also told police “Martinez tried to claw out his eyes,” the affidavit states.
Police said Martinez left the trailer before they arrived at the scene, and he is not currently listed as an inmate in the Travis County jail, according to county records.
