Western NY Catholics rejoice in messages from Pope Francis

WASHINGTON, D.C. (WIVB) — Pope Francis has people all over the world talking about the Catholic church, and many Catholics in western New York say they hope that attention will clear up misconceptions.

Some members of Buffalo’s St. John the Baptist Church say they think many non-Catholics get the wrong impression about the Catholic church, such as it being hypocritical or rigid.

Now they hope that all the attention centered on the pope will help people see things a little differently.

Many also say that the message Pope Francis is sending now is actually no different than his predecessors, only his choice of words seems to be resonating more with people from all religious backgrounds and generations.
