EMT killed in ambulance crash while responding to medical call

RIGA, N.Y. (WIVB) — An EMT tragically died when an ambulance crashed while rushing to the scene of a medical emergency.

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Department says a Bergen Fire Department ambulance crashed into a Town of Riga Caterpillar backhoe at around 7:30 a.m. Wednesday on Bovee Road.

The front passenger in the ambulance, identified as EMT Barry G. Miller, of Bergen, was taken to United Memorial Medical Center in Batavia where he was pronounced dead. Another EMT, Gina B. Bliss, was in the back cabin of the ambulance and was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

The ambulance driver, Zackery W. Czudak, was not injured, but he was taken to the hospital as a precaution.

The driver of the backhoe also escaped the accident without injury.
