NEW YORK (WIVB) — Across the nation, some, but not all, pumpkin farmers are reporting real losses from a wet growing season.
Some Americans may find themselves without pumpkin pie on the table this coming Thanksgiving due to the shortage. Pumpkin cross nationwide are down by about half compared to last year, potentially impacting canned pumpkins.
Canned pumpkins on the shelves this year are from 2014 crop, however once they’re off the shelves, producers like Libbys may not have enough pumpkins to restock shelves.
The shortage is not expected to impact pumpkins used in jack-o-lanterns, however. Halloween Pumpkins are different from those used for food.
