Scene of fire on Curtiss Street Saturday morning where two males were found dead.

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — An east side fire that claimed the lives of two people is still under investigation, but police have identified both victims.

Buffalo Police and Buffalo Fire responded to Curtiss Street near Broadway and Memorial Saturday morning just before 5 a.m. to extinguish and investigate the flames. Despite reports of the building being vacant, several people evacuated the building, but 58-year-old Edward Hughes and 64-year-old James Hodges perished during the blaze.

Homicide investigators originally responded to the scene to investigate the deaths, and police have yet to give any results of their investigation.

The building, which had several apartments inside, is slated for demolition on Tuesday.
