SINCLAIRVILLE, N.Y. (WIVB) — A Chautauqua County standoff on Tuesday afternoon lasted nearly seven hours, but patience by police led the event to end peacefully.

Officers in Sinclairville responded just before 12 p.m. to Water Street where a person they described as despondent holed up inside a home. Police say they arrived and worked to establish communication with the man, but struggled to get him to cooperate.

Police say they worked until just before 7 p.m. Tuesday to coax the resident out of his home, where police took him into custody.

No charges have been filed, but police have yet to say if they will file charges in the future, or if they will encourage the person to seek additional help. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
