Winter car readiness tips

Buffalo, N.Y. (WIVB) — An organization for drivers wants to ensure everyone is ready for winter driving conditions.

The AAA has some tips for drivers to make their cars winter ready: make sure windshield wipers work, and if they’re cracked or not working, replace them. Make sure your tires are properly inflated. Make sure your tire treads have good traction.

Also pay attention to your car’s battery. “if it’s more than 3 years old you should at least get it tested. if you are having trouble starting it you need to get it tested, possibly replaced. make sure the connections are tight. no corrosion around the connections. you can very well clean it yourself with a toothbrush and baking soda,” according to Fran Mayko of AAA Northeast.

AAA of Western and Central New York is offering three battery testing sessions this week: at 100 International Drive, Amherst, Thursday, Oct. 29, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.; 1737 Sheridan Drive, Town of Tonawanda, Wednesday, Oct. 28, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.; and 3475 Amelia Drive, Orchard Park, Tuesday, Oct. 27, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
