Mother’s love cares for kids despite rare condition and pain

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – “Love Is Stronger Than Pain.” That’s the title of a book about to be published, dedicated to the memory of Irene O’Brien.

Two of her eight children were born with a rare and painful disease called Dystrophic Epidermolysis Bullosa. Maureen and John required constant attention and care every day of their lives.

Mrs. O’Brien passed away in 1994, but the story of her faith, love and sacrifice is now being told by one of her son’s, Michael, who believes others facing adversity will find strength through her example.

Her story is told here by News 4 Senior Correspondent Rich Newberg who covered the O’Brien family for years, and recently sat down with the author to discuss Irene’s legacy.
