Amherst Police makes giving tips easy with new text line

AMHERST, N.Y. (WIVB) — It’s easier than ever to let police know about a potential crime by giving a tip. Now, all one has to do is text police.

Anybody with a phone can order a pizza, gain legal advice and even make purchases through text messages, but now they can also text Amherst police at their new texting tip line.

Officers will be monitoring the text line at all times, however response to a text may not be immediate. Police in Amherst say all tips will be confidential.

Although it is now easier to give information, officers say texting is not a substitute for calling 911 in an emergency, they still advise calling in if help is urgently needed.

Anybody can contact police in Amherst by texting 562-8477, calling 689-1390 or emailing tips to provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
