NYS Thruway will hold the line on toll increase

ALBANY, NY (WIVB) –  It’s good news for motorists who travel the New York State Thruway.  The Thruway Authority reports there will be no increase in tolls for bridges and highways in 2016.

The Thruway Authority is however still studying future tolls for the new Tappan Zee Bridge. The timetable to opening that span has been pushed back from December of this year to next Spring or Summer.

The agency will work with a budget that is 16 percent higher next year, that’s a $2.1 million budget.

There has not been a Thruway toll hike in six years.  An increase would likely signal a battle with the State Legislature and all those lawmakers face re-election campaigns next year.
